Taste Test Tuesday: Hot Chocolate Cupcakes

What do you think of when you think of hot chocolate? How about marshmallows, whipped cream and a steamy rich cup of chocolate velvet. Well today we will experience hot chocolate in a new form….cupcakes!

This is not your typical chocolate cupcake, this cupcake is a combination of devils food cake  and chocolate cake with some marshmallow bites inside. Yes, we said marshmallow bites, they remind you of the mini marshmallows that you find in your cup of hot cocoa.

You can see the marshmallow bites in the cake batter. Very simple and easy to make. Just a reminder the box only makes 12 cupcakes, not 24 like most box mixes.

Now for the frosting (it comes in the box, you have to whip it up real good), it’s marshmallowy goodness.  Just think Fluff, the stuff we used as kids when we didn’t use jelly with our peanut butter sandwiches. This frosting tastes just like it, even has a similar consistency. The frosting is a little sweet so be careful.

Take a look inside and you can see the marshmallows in the batter. Such a warm and tasty treat. We’ve spotted them in Wal-Mart, Aldi’s, Target and some grocery stores, all for under $2.50 a box.

Here’s another treat: They have brownies too!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by the kitchen today, we hope you enjoyed today’s post, eat up!

Taste Test Tuesday: Coffee-Mate Holiday Flavors

Good day everyone, thanks for stopping by the kitchen today. The holiday season is here and many companies have brought out their holiday flavors. You know those flavors that you only get this time of year, like Peppermint and Eggnog. How many of you crave Egg Nog in April or even July? One of our readers Ms. Stacey from Plano, Texas asked us to review the holiday flavors of coffee creamers.

Coffee -Mate Creamers

This year there are five flavors of holiday creamer from Coffee – Mate. Each of these flavors brings out memories of favorite holiday foods. The flavors are: Eggnog Latte, Pecan Praline, Peppermint Mocha, and Pumpkin Spice, Warm Cinnamon Sugar Cookie.

All four flavors are available in liquid form. Peppermint Mocha and Pumpkin Spice are available as a sugar-free option with Peppermint Mocha and Pumpkin Spice available in a powder form as well.

Eggnog Latte – If you are a fan of eggnog this is for you. A smooth rich taste that gives you the taste of creamy eggnog added to your favorite morning latte.

Pecan Praline – We wait for this one every year. Some people have even requested that it be made available year round. Sweet nutty flavor of pecans dipped in sugar syrup added to your coffee is sure to get your day started.

Peppermint Mocha – Think candy canes and rich chocolate. That’s what you get when you combine these two great flavors.

Pumpkin Spice – A great way to kick off the holiday season. A combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, all spice and anise makes up this wonderful flavor of a pumpkin pie.

Warm Cinnamon Sugar Cookie – This is exactly what it says. A hot sugar cookie fresh out the oven with just a hint of cinnamon on top.

We really enjoyed tasting these flavors and we thank Ms. Stacey for the recommendation. Remember you don’t have to use coffee creamer just for coffee. Add it to your baking goods. Works well with scones, tiramisu, cookies, muffins.

Taste Test Tuesday: Todd’s Dirt

Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by the kitchen today. As you can tell we had a blast at Metro Cooking DC this year. We learned a lot, saw a lot and met some really great vendors who we will continue to tell you about as we review their products. This is another vendor we met at Metro Cooking DC and we are addicted to their products.

Todd’s Dirt

After years of trying to recreate a seasoning blend that was made by a family friend, Todd was able to create something even better. Why is it called dirt? Well if you look at the bottle it resembles grass and dirt that you would find in your backyard. That’s just how big and noticeable the seasoning is. There is no MSG and it’s gluten-free. We had the opportunity to taste the dirt as a dip and on chicken. One bite and we knew this was a hit. Todd’s Dirt comes in three different blends:

Original: A mild savory seasoning made with 14 spices including, Basil, Oregano, Thyme, Kosher Salt, Pepper, Onion, Rosemary, Sage, Cilantro and other spices. Great on meats, vegetables, potatoes, and pasta. It even comes in a no-sodium blend called Low Down Dirt.

Bayou: This Creole/Cajun style seasoning has a very bold flavor made with 16 spices including, kosher salt, chipotle powder, sage, thyme, rosemary, chili powder and many more. If you are looking to spice things up a bit then this is your choice.

Crabby: A gourmet seafood seasoning blend made with 20 spices including, dry mustard, cayenne pepper, sage, onion, oregano, basil, ginger, cloves, white and black pepper, and many other spices. It’s Todd’s version of Chesapeake Bay seasoning. This seasoning was awarded the 2011 Silver Sofi award in the Flavor Enhancing category by the National Association of Specialty Food, which is the highest honor you can receive in the specialty food industry.

All of these spices were fantastic. You can use these seasonings to make dip with some sour cream. Crabby Dirt and some sour cream will kick up your shrimp cocktail dish. Sprinkle some of Todd’s dirt on some fresh popped popcorn, you’ll love it!

You can get them online at Todd’s Dirt or from some local grocery stores like Giant, Ingles Market, Whole Foods, and Central Market. Don’t see your local store on the list? Check the website to see if a store near you carries it, if not just order from the website. Hint: It is a great $5.00 investment!! They also have t-shirts, cookbooks, and gift packs if you are looking for a gift for the foodies in your life.

We hope you enjoyed today’s post. Thanks for spending time with us today. Feel free to leave a comments on the blog and let us know what you think.

Thanks Moo.com!!!

We were looking for designs for our business cards, we wanted something unique and different. Moo.com was recommended to us by Shivawn Mitchell of Love, Labels & Joneses seeing the great job that they did for her we decided to check them out.

After playing around on their site for a while we really liked the mini cards that they have so we decided that we would take a chance on them.

We absolutely love our mini business cards. While handing them out they spark up a great conversation. SRK is very different from other food blogs so we felt that our business cards had to be different too.

Check out our business card holder we got. It attaches to your keychain. It is such a great idea. A great idea for any business. Moo.com also has regular size business cards as well. They are reasonably priced too.
