Halloween: To give candy or not to give candy?

Growing up my sister, cousins and I would all head over to my grandparents house to go trick or treating in there neighborhood for Halloween. I remember getting lots of candy and not being able to eat it until my mother inspected my bag later on that night.

There were two houses on our route that always stood out to us. The first one was the lady that gave us a juice box and a bag of microwave popcorn in a ziplock bag and the other was the lady that dressed up in a witches costume and passed out hot apple cider and donuts. They were the only two that never gave us candy. But there was that one year that someone gave us a toothbrush….

Now that I am much older I stay home and pass out candy. Over the past few years I have started to notice that companies are giving people more choices for Halloween treats such as cookies,  chips, pretzels and even fruit. Are we moving towards more healthier solutions for Halloween?

What are you giving out for Halloween this year? Will you be passing out candy or are the children in your neighborhood getting more healthier treats like pretzels and apple slices? As for me, I think it will be a mixture. I always try to make sure I have something for all age groups.

The pumpkin will be Plex from Yo Gabba Gabba. I’ll be sure to take a picture of him in his costume.
