Taste Test Tuesday: ‘got milk Magic Straws’

Happy Tuesday!! Thanks for stopping by the kitchen today. Last week we talked about kids going back to school. This week we are keeping up with that theme. Today’s post is something your kids will like to try and it may even get them to drink all of their milk.

got milk Magic Straws

We decided to test these straws on a group of kids and adults. The results were amazing. Do your kids like strawberry or chocolate milk more than just plain milk? This may help ease the pain. These got milk straws are very easy to use, you can pack them and take them any where; great idea for the kids lunch boxes for school. The straws are lactose and gluten free, no preservatives, no artificial colors or flavors and less sugar than the flavored syrups you would normally add to milk.

We tested a few of the flavors, Cookies & Cream- the kids thought they were eating Oreos; Strawberry – the adults liked it a lot better than the syrup version; Chocolate – both adults and kids thought this was a good one; Strawberry Banana – the adults and the kids said they had a hard time distinguishing the flavor of the straws. We’re sure if we would have had the whole line of straws available it would have made for a great day of drinking…our milk that is.

How To Use The Straws

Step 1: Dip your magic straw into a glass of plain milk. Do not cut the straw.

Step 2: Take a long sip

Step 3: Watch the beads magically transform your milk into a tasty treat.

Here are a list of flavors available. Don’t see a flavor that you like? You can send them a message to create one. Check it out here.

  • Banana
  • Chocolate
  • Chocolate Candy Cane
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Cookies & Cream
  • Orange Cream
  • Strawberry
  • Strawberry Banana
  • Vanilla Milkshake
  • Wild berry
On your next trip to the grocery store, check to see what flavors they carry and treat yourself or the little ones in your life to a delicious milk snack.
Thanks for joining us today in the kitchen, we’re so glad to have you.

Taste Test Tuesday JELL-O Pudding Snacks

Good day everyone, June is finally here. Some kids are out of school and other will be getting in the next few days. Summer plans are being finalized, picnics on the beach, overnight camp, sleep overs, etc. All of these things need snacks don’t they? Today we are going to share a classic snack that has added some new flavors to their line. Growing you remember the classic commercial of Bill Cosby and JELL-O Chocolate Pudding? We still love that one. This week’s Taste Test Tuesday post is about JELL-O Pudding Snacks.

Orange Ice Cream Shop

This one tastes like an orange creamsicle in a cup, you know the ones you got as a kid from the ice cream truck. Creamy orange flavor with the hint of vanilla cream, makes this a great dessert snack. Just think, no messy ice cream on your hands and no sticky fingers afterwards.

Strawberry Sundae

The kids loved these, they thought they were great. Great afternoon snack for them without rushing to the nearest ice cream shop, and it’s less sugar. Strawberry flavored pudding with a strawberry sauce on top. Well you could tell there was the flavor of strawberry in the pudding but we were expecting a more intense flavor. But if you don’t want a strong strawberry flavor then this will definitely work for you.

Let’s say it’s raining out and you can’t make a fire in the back yard but you are craving you camping favorite S’mores. Or, you have an electric stove so there is no fire for you to use. Either way this JELL-O Pudding Snack will help your craving.  Chocolate pudding with a marshmallow topping in a cup. The marshmallow topping does taste like it has some graham cracker flavor to it. We just added more graham crackers to ours. The kids loved it, the adults loved it.

As always, we appreciate any feedback you can give us, whether it be on the blog, Facebook, Twitter or email.  Thanks for checking us out every week.

Taste Test Tuesday: Coffee Mate Natural Bliss

Good Day Foodies! How is your Tuesday going so far? Grab a cup of coffee or a tea and have a seat at the counter. Today’s Taste Test Tuesday posts is all about coffee creamer. Do you use creamer in your coffee or tea? How about baking with it? Let’s take a look at what we can do with creamer.

Coffee Mate Natural Bliss

Coffee Mate is always coming out with new flavors, some seasonal, some are even regional. The newest addition to the Coffee Mate family is the Natural Bliss line. It’s called Natural Bliss because it is made with milk, cream, sugar and the perspective natural flavoring. This line has four flavors:

  • Caramel
  • Vanilla
  • Low-Fat Vanilla
  • Sweet Cream

The sweetness of the creamer is wonderful, sometimes I don’t even add sugar. Depending on how sweet you like your coffee you may decide to add sugar to it. Now being that it is coffee creamer, I have experimented and tried it with some other items, such as tea, oatmeal, cookies and even french toast.

Ways to Use Natural Bliss Creamer:

  • Instead of using milk or water in your oatmeal, try the vanilla or sweet cream creamer.
  • Dunk your bread for french toast in some caramel creamer and sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar or praline pecans.
  • Add 1tsp of creamer to your favorite sugar cookie or snicker doodle recipe.
  • Making pudding? Add creamer instead of milk.
  • Use it in your hot cocoa.

What other ways can you think of to use coffee creamer? Leave a comment on the blog, tweet us on twitter or comment on our Facebook page. We would love to hear from you!

Taste Test Tuesday: TEAVANA Cocoa Praline Tart Rooibos Tea

As much as we love food here at Southern Roots Kitchen, we also love coffee and tea. Today we are going to look at a company called TEAVANA and their Cocoa Praline Tart Rooibos Tea. I received this tea as a gift from my cousin Tiara, I was hooked just off the name alone. Something about combining tea and chocolate has me very excited.
I opened the bag and allowed my nose to explore the aroma of the loose leaf tea…it smelled so good! I think that’s why I waited so long to drink it (it was a Christmas gift) lol. I’m addicted to loose leaf teas and choose how I drink them very carefully. I used 1.5 tsp for every 8oz of water and my tea steep for 5-6 minutes.

Think vanilla, Madagascar vanilla at that, figs, chocolate chips and candied macadamian nuts fused together in a mug, now that’s dessert. That’s what this tea tastes like. Smooth flavor, with scented chocolate, you can taste the nuts as well. Such a great combination of flavors. Roobios (red) tea are naturally caffeine free so this makes a wonderful compliment to your evening desserts.
There is so much more that I want to say about this tea and others from TEAVANA but don’t worry I will incorporate more teas into the blog.

Taste Test Tuesday: Duncan Hines Frosting Creations

Happy Tuesday Everyone!! Easter is almost here and we thought it would only be right if we share a sweet treat that we found just in time for the holiday. We know many people will be baking cakes, decorating cupcakes, and cookies, so we decided to share with you a new product that Duncan Hines has developed, called Frosting Creations for this week’s Taste Test Tuesday.

Duncan Hines Frosting Creations

These frosting ideas are pretty cool. You grab a frosting starter (which is jar of frosting) and then you pick the flavor mix (a small envelope.) There are 12 flavors to choose from, which are listed below. The jar of frosting is slightly larger than the standard Duncan Hines jar. They give you such a wide variety of flavors to choose from, you can even mix and match the flavors as well. We decided to play with a few of these just see what we could come up with to share with you all.

Red Velvet Cupcakes with White Chocolate Raspberry Frosting
Cinnamon Apple cake with Caramel & Cinnamon Roll Frosting
Vanilla Cupcakes with Strawberry Shortcake Frosting
Almond Pound cake with Chocolate Almond Frosting

Once you pick the flavor mix and you stir it into the frosting, it is a very smooth and easy to spread frosting. The texture of the frosting is also a different than most, it’s like a mix between buttercream and whipped; reminds us of melted marshmallows. We will be sure to use these Frosting Creations within the next weeks and keep you updated on what we come up with.

Flavor Mixes
Bubble Gum
Cherry Vanilla
Chocolate Almond
Chocolate Marshmallow
Cinnamon Roll
Cotton Candy
Mint Chocolate
Orange Creme
Strawberry Shortcake
White Chocolate Raspberry

Grab a jar, pick a flavor mix and let your imagination soar!
