Taste Test Tuesday: Cookies & Corks

Happy Tuesday Everyone! We hope your Thanksgiving holiday was filled with love, laughter, friends and family. Ours was great, we truly enjoyed ourselves.

As you know we attended Metro Cooking DC at the beginning of this month. While we were there we had the chance to sample a lot of food. One thing we came home with was some cookies from Cookies & Corks. This company has created sweet and savory cookies that are to be eaten with wine. The cookies come in very creative flavors like sea salt, lemon, sage, apricot, dark chocolate and espresso.

You can purchase cookies to be paired with white wine, red wine and sparkling wine. The distinct flavors of the cookies paired with the wine are a great match. Most people would just pair wine with cheese, but don’t worry there are cheese flavored cookies to appeal to your taste buds. We had our friends and family try the cookies over the holiday weekend. Everyone took turns sampling the cookies with the corresponding wines. Ginger Molasses, Shortbread and Zesty Lemon were the favorites.

There is even a wine pairing guide to help you with the process. Each box of cookies is $7.95 and makes a great hostess gift for this time of year.

Cookies & Corks great job on the flavor combinations we can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

Be sure to check out their site, they have a holiday sale going on right now. You don’t want to miss this.

September Foodie Penpals Reveal Day

FPP post Foodie Penpals

Good day everyone!  While reading a blog from another food blogger I came across a button that said ‘Foodie PenPals, wannabe join?’ I clicked the button and it brought me to The Lean Green Bean’s food blog.    This idea looked amazing to me so I decided to give it a try. I received my box from Elisha over at Jump Eat Run. I absolutely loved my box.

I got so excited I had to make sure I took a picture of the box before I ripped it open.

Elisha sent me a very cute note explaining everything in the box. I love handwritten notes!!

Do you spot the tea bags? She’s read my blog and knows my weakness. By the way I am drinking a cup of the cinnamon and vanilla tea now…delicious!

My box came with the famous NY Black & White cookie, I savored this cookie with every bite and did not share. The organic lollipops were so good, I didn’t even know these existed. I need to find some more. Elisha is from Michigan so she sent me some maple syrup, this is good syrup. It tasted really good on my Strawberry Pancakes.

The last two items I have seen before but never tasted thanks to Elisha I think I have found a new snack. Odwalla Banana Nut bar and a Luna Lemon Zest bar. Both of these were very good and came in handy as a great mid-morning and afternoon snack. I really enjoyed my box and will be participating again. I think you should too!!

Below is more information about how to join:

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penpals is open to US & Canadian residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

Taste Test Tuesday ‘Snack Time’

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Come on in the kitchen and grab a seat at the counter. Today we’re going to talk about snacks for kids. As you know the kids have started to go back to school and they will need some great snacks for their lunchboxes and even after school. Check out a few of the snacks we have found for the kids in your life.

Mott’s Snack & Go Applesauce Pouch

We’re all so used to the applesauce coming in the small plastic containers with the foil tops. Those are still around and Mott’s has added a new way for us to enjoy our applesauce. They now come in pouches. Same great applesauce flavor, with no sugar added. Makes for a convenient snack on the go. The applesauce also comes in strawberry as well.

Quaker Chewy Smashbars

It’s a granola bar with some added goodness in it. A combination of pretzels, cereal, chocolate, cranberries and graham crackers. A sweet and salty snack for you and your kids to snack on at anytime. The kids really enjoyed these, we think it was the chocolate lol.

Teddy Grahams Soft Paws

Most kids love Teddy Grahams, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Honey and Chocolate Chip. Well Teddy Grahams are now bigger and softer with Soft Paws. Moist, soft and full of flavor. They come in Oatmeal Raisin and Apple Cinnamon. Grab a pouch and put it in their lunch box.

Thank you so much for stopping by the kitchen today. Be sure to grab one of these snacks for yourself. As always we love to hear your feedback.

Until Next Time….

Taste Test Tuesday: ‘got milk Magic Straws’

Happy Tuesday!! Thanks for stopping by the kitchen today. Last week we talked about kids going back to school. This week we are keeping up with that theme. Today’s post is something your kids will like to try and it may even get them to drink all of their milk.

got milk Magic Straws

We decided to test these straws on a group of kids and adults. The results were amazing. Do your kids like strawberry or chocolate milk more than just plain milk? This may help ease the pain. These got milk straws are very easy to use, you can pack them and take them any where; great idea for the kids lunch boxes for school. The straws are lactose and gluten free, no preservatives, no artificial colors or flavors and less sugar than the flavored syrups you would normally add to milk.

We tested a few of the flavors, Cookies & Cream- the kids thought they were eating Oreos; Strawberry – the adults liked it a lot better than the syrup version; Chocolate – both adults and kids thought this was a good one; Strawberry Banana – the adults and the kids said they had a hard time distinguishing the flavor of the straws. We’re sure if we would have had the whole line of straws available it would have made for a great day of drinking…our milk that is.

How To Use The Straws

Step 1: Dip your magic straw into a glass of plain milk. Do not cut the straw.

Step 2: Take a long sip

Step 3: Watch the beads magically transform your milk into a tasty treat.

Here are a list of flavors available. Don’t see a flavor that you like? You can send them a message to create one. Check it out here.

  • Banana
  • Chocolate
  • Chocolate Candy Cane
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Cookies & Cream
  • Orange Cream
  • Strawberry
  • Strawberry Banana
  • Vanilla Milkshake
  • Wild berry
On your next trip to the grocery store, check to see what flavors they carry and treat yourself or the little ones in your life to a delicious milk snack.
Thanks for joining us today in the kitchen, we’re so glad to have you.
