Food News: Ecto Cooler is Coming Back!

As I am reading through news articles, I spot an article on the Huffington Post about Hi-C bringing back Ecto Cooler. I got really excited about it and the Ecto Cooler brought back major childhood flashbacks. I loved that juice growing up.

Thanks so much to the Ghostbusters movie for bringing back our lovely ‘green juice’ the Ecto Cooler. Here is the article from the Huffington Post and they even gave Ecto Cooler is own website.

The month of February is here, 28 days to follow your dreams, create new memories and live your best life. This is also Black History Month so I figured this was a great way to kick off my series of blog posts about my family, our history and why food is such a big part of our culture. Stay tuned for lots of pictures, stories and various recipes from my crazy but loving family.

We’ll also have some Taste Test Tuesday posts, more Kitchen Tips and some items for Foodie Friday.

Blessings,

Kimberlee

Hello December

It’s the month of December, Christmas is around the corner and it’s the end of the year. We hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiivng holiday with family and friends. Since we’re in a holiday mood, what are you looking forward to this month? Is it lots of egg nog, decorating the tree, baking cookies with the kids? Be sure to let us in on some of your favorite holiday traditions.
We have a two year old in the house and he got to decorate the tree over the weekend, boy did he enjoy that. The lights, the ornaments even putting the wreaths on the front door seems to make himĀ  happy. These are the moments that reminded my sister and I about our childhood and Christmas time. Those memories had us thinking about the traditions we were brough up on and what we are looking forward to this holiday season.
  • Spending Christmas with our family ( this may actually be an upcoming blog post)
  • Baking cookies, cakes and pies.
  • Seeing all the Christmas lights
  • Egg Nog ( I can’t drink it, but my sister loves it!)
  • Snow (We’re from Massachusetts)
  • Cookie Exchanges
  • Popcorn Balls
  • Making Gingerbead Houses
  • Christmas movies!!
These are just a few of the things we are looking forward to this season. What are you looking forward to this holiday season? We may feature you on our blog this month.

Halloween: To give candy or not to give candy?

Growing up my sister, cousins and I would all head over to my grandparents house to go trick or treating in there neighborhood for Halloween. I remember getting lots of candy and not being able to eat it until my mother inspected my bag later on that night.

There were two houses on our route that always stood out to us. The first one was the lady that gave us a juice box and a bag of microwave popcorn in a ziplock bag and the other was the lady that dressed up in a witches costume and passed out hot apple cider and donuts. They were the only two that never gave us candy. But there was that one year that someone gave us a toothbrush….

Now that I am much older I stay home and pass out candy. Over the past few years I have started to notice that companies are giving people more choices for Halloween treats such as cookies,  chips, pretzels and even fruit. Are we moving towards more healthier solutions for Halloween?

What are you giving out for Halloween this year? Will you be passing out candy or are the children in your neighborhood getting more healthier treats like pretzels and apple slices? As for me, I think it will be a mixture. I always try to make sure I have something for all age groups.

The pumpkin will be Plex from Yo Gabba Gabba. I’ll be sure to take a picture of him in his costume.
